From the perspective of
high-tech design and manufacturing, two cities may
never have had more potential
for partnership than San Diego and Tijuana.
That is the belief of two businesses who have forged
a partnership to complement each over across the US-Mexico
Border.
Cyth Systems in San Diego
distributes and installs products which transform
computers into industrial tools for automating laboratories
and factories. In a similar way, Automation Consulting
Services (ACS) in Tijuana has done the same from a hardware
point of view, installing robots and conveyers into
factories to make fully automated systems.
“Businesses
in both the US and in Mexico are eager to automate processes
and data collection,” says Kacy Hangca, Marketing
Coordinator for Cyth Systems.
Both Cyth and ACS perform system installations in California
and Baja California and often cross paths competing on
projects in both countries. The two competitors were having
success using different technologies, becoming increasingly
aware of one another’s capabilities. After realizing their
potential, the two businesses struck a deal over breakfast.
The agreement primarily centers on sharing new customer
leads and choosing the best solution for each project as a
team.
“We realized we could do much better together” explains Jose
Oliver, the General Manager of ACS. “We can cross-train our
employees and share technologies.” Quickly each company
discovered more benefits including fewer language issues,
sharing costs for marketing and tradeshows, and less time
spent crossing the border. If a project appeared with
portions one company could not do, it would no longer risk
proposing an incomplete solution or losing to another
company. Instead the companies are now able to collaborate
and do projects together while increasing the revenue of
each.
Although the relationship is new, there have already been
noticeable benefits. The two will continue to share leads
and marketing opportunities, and perhaps be an excellent
example to other businesses for improving small business in
both Mexico and the United States.
